Friedrich Ebert Stiftung

FES is a foundation established in 1925 as a political legacy of Germany’s first democratically elected president, Friedrich Ebert. Banned by the Nazis in 1933, it was re-established in 1947 to resume its work of:

  • furthering political and social education of individuals from all walks of life in the spirit of democracy and pluralism
  • facilitating access to university education and research for gifted young people by providing scholarships
  • contributing to international understanding and co- operation

FES has kindly funded a number of projects Public World has carried out with other partner organisations and clients, and continues to support our work with the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF).

Among the ongoing projects supported by FES is the British-German Trade Union Forum, which is also backed by the Hans Böckler Stiftung and the British and German trade union confederations, the TUC and DGB.

Public World contributed a presentation to its 2010 forum, on the theme ‘After the crisis: services of general interest in tomorrow’s economy’. You can find a report of the event (in German) here.
