International Labour Organization

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is the United Nations specialised agency responsible for drawing up and overseeing international labour standards. It brings together representatives of governments, employers and workers to jointly shape policies and programmes promoting Decent Work for all. Its main aims are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.

ILO has commissioned Public World to produce several reports in a wide range of contexts, from a study of privatisation in ‘transition countries’ to the impacts of restructuring of energy companies in the United States and Canada. We have also prepared background documents for ILO meetings in which representatives of governments, employers and workers come together for a week or more to thrash out key issues in great detail. You can download an example about privatisation of municipal servicesprivatisation of municipal services.

In addition to our written output, we have taught on ILO training courses at its Turin centre, and we have also worked with global union federations to support their preparations and participation in ILO meetings.
