Public Services International

Public World grew out of work done by managing director Brendan Martin in the 1990s with Public Services International (PSI), which is a global union federation linking some 20 million workers worldwide.

In the early 1990s, PSI commissioned Brendan to research the causes and effects of public services privatisation globally and to act as an advisor to its Public Sector Working Group. This led to Brendan’s first book, In the Public Interest? Privatisation and Public Sector Reform. (Zed Books, 1993), which draws on conversations and interviews with public service workers and others in many countries, and on primary research in Latin America.
